Trump announces who of his team will be in charge of US borders
US President-elect Donald Trump has announced that Tom Homan will serve as the "border czar" in his new administration, overseeing America's borders and deportations, citing the Associated Press.
According to the report, Trump wrote about this on Sunday evening on his social network, Truth Social. Homan is known as a former acting director of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
"I am pleased to announce that the Former ICE Director, and stalwart on Border Control, Tom Homan, will be joining the Trump Administration, in charge of our Nation’s Borders," Trump wrote.
The newly elected US president also added that in addition to overseeing the southern and northern borders, as well as "maritime and aviation security," Homan "will be in charge of all Deportation of Illegal Aliens back to their Country of Origin," which is a core part of his agenda.
Trump says he had "no doubt" that Homan "will do a fantastic, and long awaited for, job.."
According to AP, this role does not require Senate confirmation.
It was expected that Homan would be offered a role related to the border and Trump’s promise to launch the largest deportation operation in the country’s history.
Trump's new team
Recently, the US president-elect announced he would appoint Susie Wiles as White House chief of staff. Western media noted that she would become the first woman in American history to hold this influential position.
Trump also revealed yesterday that he would not offer positions in his upcoming administration to former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo or former Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley.
