Trump announces Israel agreed to 60-day ceasefire in Gaza

Israel has agreed to a 60-day ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, offering a window of opportunity to achieve an end to the war in the Middle East.
This was announced by US President Donald Trump, according to his post on the social media platform Truth Social.
In his post, the US president noted that his representatives held a "long and productive meeting with the Israelis today," regarding the situation in the Gaza Strip.
He stated that Israel had agreed to the necessary conditions for a 60-day ceasefire, during which the US would work with all parties to bring the war to an end.
Trump also expressed hope that Qatar and Egypt, "who have worked very hard to help bring peace," would deliver the final peace proposal to the leaders of the Palestinian group.
"I hope, for the good of the Middle East, that Hamas takes this deal, because it will not get better - it will only get worse. Thank you for your attention to this matter!" he concluded.
Israel-Hamas war
The armed conflict in the Gaza Strip has been ongoing since October 2023, when fighters from the Palestinian group Hamas launched an attack on Israel from the enclave, killing hundreds of people and taking both Israeli citizens and foreigners hostage.
In January 2025, the sides agreed to a ceasefire and began a hostage exchange. However, in March, Hamas began to stall the implementation of the agreements, prompting Israel to resume full-scale military operations in the region.
In May, the Israeli army launched a large-scale military operation Gideon’s Chariot aimed at bringing the Gaza Strip under full control.
In recent days, Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed on a plan to stabilize the situation in the Middle East.
According to the plan, the fighting in Gaza is expected to end within the next two weeks.
