Trump administration to send thousands of illegal migrants, including Ukrainians, to Guantanamo

The administration of the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, plans to send thousands of illegal migrants, among whom there are also Ukrainians, to the military base in Guantanamo, according to The Washington Post.
According to unnamed officials who are informed on this issue, the transportation of illegal migrants will begin already this week. The migrants come from various countries, including Britain, Italy, Germany, Türkiye, Ireland, France, and Ukraine. In particular, there are many Haitian citizens among them.
The Trump administration, for its part, is unlikely to inform foreign governments about its plans.
Preparation for the transfer includes a medical examination of nine thousand people to determine whether they are healthy enough to be sent to Guantanamo. The prison is known for detaining terrorism suspects and other persons captured on battlefields after September 11.
Officials of the Trump administration explain their decision by stating that the States need to free up space in domestic detention facilities, which have become overcrowded due to the president’s promise to carry out the largest deportation of illegal migrants in American history.
Deportations and protests in the USA
Trump, immediately after returning to the White House, launched a campaign to deport migrants. Against this backdrop, at the end of February and the beginning of March, protests took place in the country.
Mass protests flared up again in Los Angeles at the beginning of June after the immigration service detained at least 118 illegal migrants in the city.
The head of the White House, for his part, ordered the National Guard to suppress the unrest. In particular, he threatened the participants of the riots with imprisonment. A curfew was also introduced in the city.
