Trump administration can easily end war in Ukraine - Turkish President
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated that the war in Ukraine could be quickly ended if a future US administration under Donald Trump focuses on diplomatic solutions to the conflict, according to Reuters.
He emphasized that dialogue and agreements are necessary to end the war, not weapons and conflicts.
"We can easily end this war if we see a Trump administration that approaches the issue with a solution-based perspective. More dialogue, diplomacy, agreement will open the door to peace, not weapons, bombs and conflict," Erdoğan said.
He expressed confidence that a greater focus on diplomacy could pave the way for peace. The Turkish leader added that Western efforts led by the US to end the war could significantly accelerate the achievement of peace.
Trump had previously claimed that, if elected, he could secure peace in Ukraine within 24 hours, although he did not specify how this complex conflict, which has become the largest land war in Europe since World War II, would be resolved.
While Türkiye supports Ukraine's territorial integrity and condemns Russia’s actions, it does not support Western sanctions against Moscow. At the same time, Türkiye maintains important partnership relations with Russia in energy, tourism, and defense.
Since March, Türkiye has actively called for negotiations and offered its mediation services. Erdoğan noted that his country has already brought both sides to the negotiating table several times and is ready to do so again.
Trump’s position on the war in Ukraine
It remains challenging to predict precisely what position Donald Trump will take regarding the war in Ukraine after his inauguration.
In early September, Trump stated that upon becoming president, he would immediately contact Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin to negotiate peace within 24 hours.
In September, Trump also met with Zelenskyy, who presented him with his plan for victory. Following the talks, Trump emphasized that he "seeks a fair agreement for all parties."
