Trichologist named 5 things you should never do with your hair
Healthy hair starts with a healthy scalp. It's worth avoiding some mistakes that can damage your hair and lead to disease, according to the Huffpost website.
London trichologist Anabel Kingsley said poor scalp condition can increase hair loss and weaken hair growth.
The health of the scalp can affect your hair's overall condition and appearance.
The expert named mistakes to avoid.
Do not use products without reading the instructions first
When using any hair care products, the condition of the scalp should be taken into account. It is worth avoiding the use of aggressive hair products that can worsen the condition of the scalp.
Sulfate-containing products can strip the scalp of moisture, and fragrances can cause further irritation if you already have scalp conditions.
Instead, opt for soothing ingredients such as aloe vera, tea tree oil, and chamomile, which can help calm scalp irritation.
Do not make tight hairstyles
The trichologist said that tight hairstyles, such as ponytails or buns more than twice a week, should be avoided. This is because hairstyles contribute to hair breakage and traction alopecia along the hairline due to pulling.
Such hairstyles can also cause discomfort due to constant tension.
Do not apply conditioner to the scalp
Conditioners are often made with heavy oils, silicones, and thickeners. When applied to the scalp, which naturally produces oil, the combination can lead to buildup, greasiness, itching, and flaking.
Conditioner should only be applied to the ends, as it is intended to moisturize.
Hair sun protection
Often, people think that only facial and body skin needs sun protection. However, strong sun exposure can damage hair, leading to problems.
Importance of fiber in the diet
Fiber is key to supporting a healthy gut microbiome, directly linked to the scalp microbiome.
Ensure your diet is fiber-rich, such as pears, apples, blackberries, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, and leafy greens.
Do not ignore the scalp pH balance
It plays a crucial role in maintaining scalp health. When the pH balance is disrupted, meaning surface products are too alkaline or acidic, you may experience irritation, dryness, and inflammation.
Knowing and using products that optimize pH ensures the scalp remains in good condition.
Do not overuse dry shampoo
Dry shampoo can be a lifesaver for extending the time between washes, but excessive use can harm the scalp.
The buildup of dry shampoo residues can clog hair follicles, leading to inflammation, itching, and even hair loss.
The trichologist recommends using dry shampoo no more than three to four days in a row.
