Trichologist explains how to wash your hair correctly for maximum benefit
Many people dream of having well-groomed hair with minimal effort. It turns out that washing your hair over the bathtub rather than standing under the shower has several advantages.
This information comes from the TikTok page of American trichologist Rachel Valentine.
How to properly wash your hair
Many people try every shampoo and conditioner on the market, experiment with scalp scrubs, and use various oils, but still find their hair unsatisfactory.
However, trichologist Rachel Valentine has identified a simple change in your routine that could significantly improve your hair care - it's all about how you wash your hair.
Valentine explained that washing your hair over the bathtub makes it easier to access all areas, similar to a salon experience. This method also simplifies rinsing out masks and other products without the inconvenience of standing under the shower, thus saving water.
How often should you wash your hair?
Hair should be washed according to how dirty it gets, but not less than once every 4-5 days. There’s no exact number, as it varies individually.
Factors such as hair type, diet (fat and carbohydrate intake), and personal characteristics influence this frequency. Avoid letting your hair become greasy, matted, or itchy, as this can lead to harmful microorganisms and fungal infections.
If you lead an active lifestyle and need to wash your hair daily, use sulfate-free shampoos. If you frequently use styling products, opt for deep-cleansing shampoos to effectively remove these products.
Should you use shampoo twice?
If you spend a lot of time outdoors or use many styling products, applying shampoo twice can help remove accumulated dirt and residue.
However, if you wash your hair almost daily, it's better to use shampoo only once. Excessive shampooing can strip your hair of its natural protective oils, making it more prone to damage.
Dry shampoo can quickly improve the condition of your hair between washes. It absorbs excess oil and adds volume to the roots, giving your hair a cleaner appearance.
Additionally, it's important not to wash your hair with water that is too hot or too cold. The water temperature should be significantly different from your body temperature, ideally around 35-40°C (95-104°F).
