Top stylist warns: 5 hair treatments you should never try Photo: Which hair procedures not to do

Want healthy and shiny hair? Many of us are willing to do anything for the perfect hairstyle, but not all popular treatments are safe. Which procedures to avoid to protect your locks is explained by famous Ukrainian hairdresser Ruslana Bely.

Keratin, nanoplastics, and hot botox

These treatments promise perfect smoothness but actually damage hair structure and can be hazardous to health. According to the expert, heating the special mixtures releases formaldehyde, a toxic and carcinogenic substance. Even if a product claims to be formaldehyde-free, derivatives are often present in the formula.

Important note: Keratin straightening is officially banned in countries like Canada and Israel due to proven health risks.

Scalp scrubs and peels

Scrubbing the scalp is not a universal solution; it's a serious procedure that should only be prescribed by a dermatologist after diagnosis. Uncontrolled use can destroy the skin's natural protective barrier and cause severe irritation, dryness, or even dermatitis.

According to Ruslana, popular "healing" ampoules cannot penetrate the hair follicle, so their effect is a myth.

Hair polishing

This procedure, which supposedly removes split ends, only temporarily masks the problem. Polishing thins the hair along its entire length, and over time, the condition of the locks worsens. Regular haircuts and proper home care are the best alternatives.

Magic pills for hair growth

The market is flooded with vitamins and supplements that promise to speed up hair growth. The hairdresser emphasizes that these do not work. Hair growth is a complex physiological process that depends on overall health, not on magical pills. If they worked locally, hair would grow faster all over the body wherever follicles exist.

Mass-market hair dye

Paint from the store shelf is a mass-produced product that may not fit the individual characteristics of your hair, such as its condition, porosity, and percentage of gray hair. According to the stylist, the main risk is the unknown and often high percentage of oxidizer, which can quite damage hair. Only a professional can choose the right formula for safe and quality coloring.
