'Tiered' response: U.S. to strike Iran's targets in Iraq and Syria, says WSJ
The United States of America this weekend is going to strike Iranian targets in Iraq and Syria in response to the attack on their military base in Jordan resulted in the death of three soldiers, reports The Wall Street Journal.
It is reported that among the targets of U.S. strikes will be the Iranian personnel and facilities.
WSJ source emphasizes that the response will be "tiered" - the U.S. is going to mix military actions with other steps that can be adjusted to signal that Washington doesn’t seek further escalation.
According to U.S. officials, such actions intend to force Iran and its proxies to reduce the number of attacks across the Middle East while a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas is being negotiated.
However, Iran denies its involvement in the attack on the American base in Jordan and threatens to retaliate if the U.S. attacks Iranian territory or personnel deployed around the region.
An attack on an American base
A few days ago a U.S. military base was attacked in Jordan with the help of a drone. As a result, three soldiers were killed and dozens more were injured.
U.S. President Joe Biden later said that Iran had been involved in the attack, as the military was hit by Iranian weapons.
The American head of state noted that he had already decided how to respond to the attack.
