This factor may help to assess overall woman's health - Gynecologist explains

The general health of a woman can be assessed by menstruation, namely how it goes. Not always "failures" can indicate problems with women's health, states Ukrainian gynecologist Liudmyla Shupeniuk.
Is it possible to assess woman's health by menstruation
According to the doctor, the presence of normal regular menstruation does not mean that a woman is absolutely healthy, because she may have some other health problems.
However, it is women's health and hormonal function that is the main factor in how menstruation proceeds in women.
As soon as there are any changes in the nature of menstruation, a woman should be alerted. Then you need to see a doctor and get tested.
What changes can occur
Changes in the menstrual cycle, namely, longer or shorter periods. A delay of up to a week is normal.
But if you don't have your period for a month, or it "goes away" twice a month, this may already indicate a problem.
Also, if menstruation was normal and became heavy or vice versa, this may also indicate some changes.
"We're not talking about one time. You know, as they say, it happens to everyone once. But if it happens again in a woman, you should pay attention," the doctor explained.
For example, if you have painful menstruation, this is a reason to see a gynecologist. Because sometimes menstruation may not even be about a problem with the uterus or ovaries. It can be about a problem with the brain and thyroid gland.
What is responsible for menstruation
According to the gynecologist, there are five links responsible for menstrual function. The first is the cerebral cortex, and the second is the hypothalamus, which is a brain structure. The third is the pituitary gland, a structure in the brain.
"These links communicate with each other and extract the hormones that control this orchestra. And the uterus and ovaries are the performers. The problem can be at each of these levels," the expert added.
The doctor gave an example: when she was still a young doctor, she had a 15-year-old patient who was overweight and had menstrual periods of three to four weeks. And it turned out that she had a brain tumor that manifested itself in this way. Apart from menstrual irregularities, there were no other disorders.
Therefore, if there are menstrual irregularities, this may indicate not only gynecological problems.
If your gynecologist hasn't found any problems, you should move on to other body systems. This can be the thyroid gland, pituitary gland, adrenal gland, intestines, overweight or underweight. Menstrual function responds to all of this.
