This common mistake women make in winter leads to hair breakage and loss
In winter, hair is prone to quick damage due to high temperatures. It can also become brittle if you go outside with wet hair, according to the Daily Express website.
Why you should dry your hair immediately
Dr. Abdulaziz Balwi, a leading hair transplant surgeon, explained why wet hair is more prone to damage in winter.
Going outside with wet hair during the cold months harms your health.
“Hair is more prone to damage when it is wet. Hair is made up of proteins better known as keratins which sit within the hair cuticles. When the hair is wet, the protein bonds are weaker, making the hair easier to damage,” the doctor added.
Cold air can cause the water in the hair to freeze and expand. This can damage the hair cuticle, leading to split ends and brittleness.
Wet hair is much more sensitive to environmental damage, so when the temperature drops, it’s advisable to dry your hair before going outside.
Additionally, this mistake can make hair dry, leading to tangles and making it harder to style.
How to protect your hair in winter
Dr. Balwi recommends that people incorporate more moisturizing products into their regular hair care routine during the colder months. This includes hair oils, masks, and leave-in treatments. These products will help restore moisture lost due to weather conditions.
For those with damaged hair, it’s important to include several key products in their hair care routine.
Hyaluronic acid
This is an important component of proper hair care if people want shiny hair, as it can enhance shine and provide intense hydration. Like glycerin, it attracts moisture to the hair, helping to maintain moisture balance and improve elasticity.
Argan oil
Argan oil is lightweight and non-greasy, making it ideal for adding shine and smoothness without weighing the hair down. It absorbs quickly into the hair, helping to moisturize and nourish it.
Additionally, it contains essential fatty acids and antioxidants that contribute to overall hair health.
Silk proteins
They have a lightweight molecular structure that allows them to easily penetrate the hair shaft, providing deep hydration and strengthening the hair from within.
They also create a protective barrier on the surface of the hair, helping to shield it from harmful environmental factors and heat styling.
Vitamin E
Vitamin E helps to moisturize the hair and scalp, preventing dryness and enhancing shine. It also promotes healthy blood circulation in the scalp, which can stimulate growth and improve the overall condition of the hair.
Additionally, vitamin E has antioxidant properties that help protect the hair from harmful environmental factors and free radicals, which can lead to dullness and brittleness.
