Ukraine is not responsible for any events that may take place in Russia on May 9. Kyiv advises foreign leaders against traveling to Moscow, according to a statement by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a conversation with journalists.

According to him, Ukraine's position is very clear regarding all countries that have traveled or plan to travel to Russia on May 9.

"We cannot be held responsible for what happens on the territory of the Russian Federation. They are the ones ensuring your security, so we will not provide any guarantees. We simply do not know what Russia might do on those dates," he said.

According to President Zelenskyy, Russia may carry out various provocations on its own territory — including arson or explosions — and then attempt to blame Ukraine.

"As president, I believe — and I’ve told the foreign minister this — that we must clearly state to those who reach out to us: "We do not recommend visiting Russia from a security standpoint. And if you choose to go, do not turn to us. That is your personal decision," he said.

Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine bears no responsibility whatsoever for what is currently happening in Russia.

May 9 parade in Moscow

Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin has invited the leaders of China, India, Brazil, as well as EU member Slovakia and Serbia, to attend the May 9 parade in Moscow.

According to Reuters, Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to travel to Moscow for the celebration. Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has also not withdrawn his intention to attend the parade. However, media reports suggest that Serbia may face obstacles to EU accession if Vučić joins Putin at the event.

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, has warned European leaders against taking part.
