Many everyday foods can turn out to be real calorie bombs. They often seem harmless, but even a small portion can significantly impact your daily calorie intake.

RBC-Ukraine presents a list of five foods with the highest energy value.

Oils – up to 900 kcal per 100 g

The leader is vegetable oils, olive, sunflower, and others. They are almost pure fat, which makes them extremely high in calories. Despite their benefits, they should be used in moderation.

Lard – about 850 kcal

A traditional product of Ukrainian cuisine, lard contains a large amount of fat. While it can be part of a balanced diet in moderation, it should not be overconsumed.

Butter (82%) – 730 kcal

Butter adds flavor to dishes but has high energy density, especially varieties with a high fat content.

Macadamia nuts – 720 kcal

These nuts are considered healthy, but they are very calorie-dense. Even a small handful provides a significant portion of daily energy intake.

Mayonnaise – 670 kcal

This common dressing, often added to salads and snacks, can quietly increase the calorie content of meals—especially with regular consumption.

Why it matters

High-calorie content doesn’t mean these foods should be completely excluded. Most of them contain beneficial fats and nutrients.

However, balance is key. Excessive consumption can lead to weight gain and health problems.
