The end of Russia's war against Ukraine in 2025 is possible. This requires toughening sanctions and providing security guarantees to Ukraine. This was stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the British broadcaster ITV News informs.
"Without question, this (ending the war in Ukraine, ed.) is something we really want. And every year, to be honest, we really wish that our Western partners have enough strength to force Putin to end the war," Zelenskyy emphasized.
He believes that there is every opportunity for this now. Moreover, in his opinion, U.S. President Donald Trump also wants the war to end quickly.
"I think that today there is every opportunity. In my opinion, Trump wants a quick end to the war. Quick or not, we don't know what will happen, but we know that you need to be strong. He is strong, but there needs to be a desire to act in unity with the Europeans and act decisively," the President emphasized.
Regarding sanctions, Zelenskyy emphasized that sanctions have been imposed and that they have had a negative impact on Russia's economy.
"But it managed to adapt to each sanction. Why? Because there was always this "gap" - sanctions are placed, but they are placed on some banks, and not on all of them, on agriculture, but not the shadow fleet. Now they've put sanctions on the shadow fleet. But again, not all ships, sanctions were not imposed on the entire fleet. There is still space to work... We are talking about hundreds of ships, not tens. Hundreds more need to be sanctioned, and the captains, on the crews, on all the people involved," he emphasized.
Zelenskyy underlined that sanctions should be total to increase pressure on Russia.
He also emphasized the need for security guarantees for Ukraine to reassure the people and called for economic recovery and the return of people.
"We need our people, 8 million of them, to return," the Head of State said.
At the same time, the president emphasized that today there is no longer a conversation about justice for Ukraine, but about ending the hot stage of the war.
"A just and lasting peace is important to us, but let's take some steps toward security guarantees - then we can talk about stopping the hot stage of the war. Support for our army - you can guarantee that tomorrow we will not be left alone. Then we can talk about the third, fourth, and fifth points," the head of state summarized.
Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he was ready to negotiate with Vladimir Putin if it was the only way to bring peace to the citizens of Ukraine and not lose people.
