The Armed Forces of Ukraine enhancing means to fight Russian Shaheds
Ukraine continues to enhance its countermeasures against Russian drones. The effectiveness of mobile fire groups of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) is increasing with each hostile attack, according to Yurii Ihnat, the spokesperson of the Air Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
"We need to increase the weaponry capable of destroying Shahed drones. Having a locator and radar tracking of the target, in this way, automatic mode anti-aircraft guns or large-caliber machine guns can effectively destroy it," Ihnat stated.
The spokesperson for the Air Force Command noted that mobile fire groups are the most rational method of countering Shahed drones. At the same time, anti-aircraft missile units are the primary destroyers of kamikaze drones.
Ihnat also added that Russia continues to expand its drone production. Special factories are being prepared on the territory of the terrorist country for this purpose. On Ukraine's part, drone production is also being increased as it is considered an effective weapon that cannot be underestimated.
"If this drone, an ammunition barraging, hits the vulnerable spot precisely, the consequences can be serious. That's why all means capable of destroying this target day and night are being enhanced. The enemy has a certain strategic task. They understand that we will work out all available means. It's also a depletion of our air defense system's resources. They set such a goal," summarized Yuriy Ihnat.
Shahed drones
Russia actively employs Iranian Shahed-type kamikaze drones to strike at Ukrainian territory. Most are shot down, but these drones often inflict significant damage.
At the end of August, Vadym Skibitskyi, a Deputy Chief of the Defense Intelligence, reported that the terrorist country had already established a robust production of unmanned aerial vehicles on its territory. According to the elements found in UAVs, the final assembly of these drones takes place on Russian territory.
