Contrary to US President Donald Trump's statements about good relations with Iranian leader Mojtaba Khamenei, Tehran denies the possibility of a meeting between them, according to a statement by Khamenei's military adviser, Mohsen Rezaei, to CNN.

The adviser first stated that negotiations between Iran and the US have reached a dead end, and White House chief Donald Trump must find a way out of the current situation.

And although Rezaei did not answer questions about Khamenei's role in Iran's decision-making process, he dismissed the prospects of a meeting between the Iranian leader and Trump.

"This will not happen, right now we are in the first stage of negotiations and Mr. Trump has brought the negotiations to a standstill. This will not happen," the Iranian official said.

Earlier this week, the US president stated that he and Iranian leader Mojtaba Khamenei seem to get along well and that it would be an honor for him to meet with him.

Earlier, Mohsen Rezaei stated that negotiations with the US had reached a dead end over $24 billion in frozen Iranian assets. This money is held in several countries, and Washington can influence its return to the Islamic state.

Khamenei's military adviser also promised that Tehran would prolong the war beyond the Persian Gulf if the US resumes the conflict, expanding military operations from the Strait of Hormuz to the Indian Ocean, the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, the Red Sea, and the Mediterranean Sea.
