In occupied Crimea, targeted electricity restrictions have been introduced, allegedly due to the threat of overloads and failures in the power system. Explosions were heard across the peninsula beforehand, according to the occupation authorities’ company Krymenergoinform and the Telegram channel Krymskyi Veter.
According to the energy company, power outages will occur "in specific areas and as necessary." The occupation authorities call this a "forced step" to prevent a large-scale failure across the entire grid.
There are currently no exact hourly outage schedules by district.
Despite the claims that the measures are selective, all villages in the Krasnoperekopsk district were left without electricity. In Krasnoperekopsk itself, power went out at around 6:00 a.m., immediately after a series of explosions heard by local residents.
Power outages were also reported in the area the previous day, on the night of October 1. At the time, the outages were caused by damage to power lines and a strike in the area of a local substation near the Bromnyi plant.
Power outage schedules were introduced in Kyiv and parts of the Kyiv region due to the consequences of Russian strikes. In addition, emergency power outages were introduced in three regions of Ukraine.
