Tajani urges Zelenskyy to involve Italy and Poland in peace efforts

Ukraine should involve not only France and Germany but also other key European Union countries, including Italy and Poland, in peace initiatives, Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said.
Why involving the entire EU matters
According to the Italian official, achieving a just peace requires looking to the European Union as a whole rather than relying on individual countries.
"We need a just peace. We will continue to help Ukraine defend itself without sending our troops. Europe can do a lot, but I believe that Zelenskyy should look not at individual European countries, but at all EU member states," Tajani stressed.
Italy’s foreign minister emphasized that creating small, closed groups for negotiations would not produce the desired result.
"Small-group initiatives are not needed. I am telling Zelenskyy, and I am giving him this advice as a friend of Ukraine: it is best to involve not only France and Germany, but also Italy and Poland," he said during a press briefing at the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (Fiesp).
Talks on the war in Ukraine
Negotiations aimed at resolving the war in Ukraine could resume in the near future.
Diplomatic circles say the sides are considering various formats for engagement, including the involvement of new international partners and a return to trilateral consultations.
In particular, Russia has said that some communication between the sides remains and suggested that a meeting could be possible.
Russian leader Vladimir Putin’s aide Yuri Ushakov said that Russia considers trilateral talks with Ukraine and the US and named a possible venue, while emphasizing that the sides maintain "certain contacts."
At the same time, Washington has taken a cautious view of the prospects for renewed dialogue.
Assessing the chances of a diplomatic settlement, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned that talks between Ukraine and Russia could resume in the coming weeks, as the US side is preparing a plan, but stressed that significant obstacles remain.
