Türkiye blocks Israeli president from attending Baku summit
Türkiye denied permission for Israeli President Isaac Herzog's plane to fly over its airspace, leading to the cancellation of his visit to the UN climate conference in Baku, reports Milliyet.
The report states that President Isaac Herzog canceled his planned visit to the UN climate conference held in Baku, Azerbaijan's capital.
The official reason for the cancellation was cited as "security concerns" following an assessment of the situation.
However, according to the Yedioth Ahronot newspaper, sources within Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs claimed the true reason was Turkey's refusal to allow the Israeli presidential plane, Wing of Zion, to pass through its airspace.
It is worth noting that relations between Israel and Turkey remain strained. Previously, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spoke at a pro-Palestinian rally in Istanbul, referring to Israel as an "occupier."
In response, Tel Aviv instructed its diplomats to leave Turkey.
