The Minister of Defense Rustem Umerov, together with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, held a conversation with the Supreme Commander of the NATO Armed Forces in Europe, General Christopher Cavoli, according to Umerov's Facebook page.

Also managed to speak with the Commander of the NATO Security Assistance Group for Ukraine, Lieutenant General Antonio Aguto.

"A clear and substantive conversation. We discussed our military plans for 2024," the minister wrote.

Priorities for the Armed Forces

Syrskyi voiced priorities in the conversation, including:

  • Optimization of the structure of the Armed Forces;
  • Improvement of the quality of training for our military personnel;
  • Completion of existing brigades and creation of new ones;
  • Ensuring regular needs for weapons and equipment.

Separately, they also discussed the continuous increase in electronic warfare assets to neutralize the threat of enemy drones.

"Another important topic is ensuring the rotation of our soldiers on the frontline. There is a lot of work to be done and decisions to be made ahead, necessary for our victory," Umerov wrote.

Changes in the Armed Forces

Last week, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy began renewing the leadership of the Armed Forces. Thus, Oleksandr Syrskyi was appointed instead of Valerii Zaluzhnyi as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. And instead of Serhii Shaptala, Anatolii Barhylevych became the Chief of the General Staff.

Later, the head of state also appointed deputies of the new chiefs and the chief of the General Staff, and also carried out personnel changes among the commanders of the troops.

Today, the Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi and the Minister of Defense Rustem Umerov headed to the front line to assess the situation.
