Syria hails Trump’s move to remove US sanctions

US President Donald Trump has lifted sanctions on Syria. The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed this decision, according to The Times of Israel and Reuters.
Specifically, Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shibani stated that Trump’s suspension of the sanctions program against Syria will open the door to long-awaited recovery and development.
He also wrote on the social media platform X that this move removes an obstacle on the path to economic restoration and will open the country to the international community.
In May, President Trump met with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa in Riyadh, marking a significant shift in US policy.
In a surprising move, the US president announced the lifting of American sanctions against Syria, prompting Washington to substantially ease its measures.
Trump lifts sanctions on Syria
Yesterday, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order lifting American sanctions on Syria.
At the same time, Washington is maintaining restrictions on the deposed former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, his associates, human rights violators, drug traffickers, individuals linked to chemical weapons development, members of ISIS and its affiliates, as well as trusted agents of Iran.
In its information bulletin, the White House stated that the order instructs the US Secretary of State to review the designation of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham - a rebel group led by Ahmed al-Sharaa with roots in al-Qaeda - as a terrorist organization.
Additionally, the order calls for a review of Syria’s status as a state sponsor of terrorism.
The White House also declared it will continue monitoring Syria’s progress on key priorities, including concrete steps toward normalizing relations with Israel, combating foreign terrorists, deporting Palestinian terrorists, and banning Palestinian terrorist groups.
