Swedish Defense Minister Pål Jonson, in an interview with RND, has urged European countries to adopt a "war footing" to protect and maintain peace.

The Swedish defense minister urged European countries to prepare for potential military challenges. He stressed that maintaining peace on the continent requires a change in mindset and adopting a "war footing."

Jonson explained that Europeans need to recognize the shared desire to live in peace. He said that to preserve this peace, nations must be ready for a possible war, both morally and militarily.

The Swedish defense minister added that Europeans must adopt a war footing to decisively deter threats, protect their nations, and sustain peace. Jonson also noted that the majority of Swedish citizens support aid to Ukraine and favor strengthening the country's defense capabilities.

According to him, about 90% of the population wants to maintain or expand support for Ukraine, and most advocate for increased defense spending. Jonson emphasized that peace is not a given and must be defended every day.

Sweden has begun building strategic grain reserves, sending the first shipments to four northern regions considered crucial for national food security in the event of military threats.

Ahead of winter, Sweden approved a new humanitarian aid package for Ukraine worth more than 1.1 billion Swedish kronor, roughly €116 million.
