Ukrainian artillery units have received 26 modern Archer self-propelled howitzers from Sweden. The Armed Forces of Ukraine say the systems demonstrate high accuracy and rapid performance on the front line, according to the Embassy of Sweden in Ukraine.

Effectiveness on the battlefield

The diplomatic mission noted that Ukrainian servicemen, including soldiers of the 45th Separate Artillery Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, are already using the Archer systems to strike Russian positions. The howitzer is capable of firing at ranges of up to 50 kilometers.

The key advantages of the Archer system include:

  • High mobility: mounted on a heavy all-terrain vehicle, allowing crews to quickly change positions.

  • Automation: fire control is conducted remotely from an armored cabin.

  • Accuracy: advanced ballistic calculations and the ability to use NATO-standard ammunition.

Technical support

Due to the intensive use of equipment at the front, barrel wear is inevitable. The Embassy reported that to maintain artillery combat readiness, Sweden sent more than 10 spare barrels in mid-2025. This allows Ukrainian defenders to continue effectively destroying occupying forces without lengthy repair delays.

Earlier, the British government expanded its military assistance by supplying modern air defense systems designed to intercept aerial targets. Deliveries of systems with varying ranges are taking place amid intensified Russian air terror and are aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s airspace defense.

It is also worth noting that the United States has temporarily suspended deliveries of certain types of precision-guided munitions and air defense missiles to Ukraine.

The decision is linked to the need to review US stockpiles, as concerns have emerged in Washington over the depletion of critical weapons reserves.
