On the night of 9 February, the season’s main professional American football match – Super Bowl LX – took place. The Seattle Seahawks convincingly defeated the New England Patriots, claiming the championship title for the second time in their history.

Seattle Seahawks – New England Patriots – 29:13

New England sets an unfortunate record

The game was held at a neutral venue – Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, which will also host matches of the 2026 FIFA World Cup this summer.

Seattle took control from the start. In the first quarter, kicker Jason Myers opened the scoring with a successful field goal. In the second quarter, he added two more field goals, and the Seahawks went into halftime with a comfortable 9:0 lead.

After the break, the picture did not change. The Patriots struggled to find their offensive rhythm, while Myers remained precise – 12:0 after three quarters.

Notably, New England became the first team in Super Bowl history to score no points in the first three quarters of a final.

Explosive final quarter

The most eventful and high-scoring quarter was the fourth.

AJ Barner scored a touchdown, extending Seattle’s lead to 19:0. The Patriots quickly responded with a touchdown from Mac Collins, narrowing the gap.

However, the suspense didn’t last long. Uchenna Nwosu scored another touchdown, and Myers added the extra point and a field goal, effectively sealing the victory.

At the very end, Ramondre Stevenson scored a touchdown for New England, but a two-point conversion attempt failed.

The final whistle confirmed Seattle Seahawks’ victory – 29:13.

Seattle’s second title and the Patriots’ missed chance

For the Seattle club, this is their second Super Bowl appearance and their first championship since the 2013 season. Additionally, this victory served as a kind of revenge for the 2015 season, when the Patriots prevented Seattle from defending their title.

The loss also denied New England the chance to become the sole leader in the NFL’s all-time championship rankings. Had they won, the Patriots would have claimed their seventh title – more than any other team in history.

Having missed the opportunity, they continue to share the historic lead with the Pittsburgh Steelers, each holding six trophies.

Interestingly, this marks the Patriots’ sixth Super Bowl loss – the worst record in league history. By comparison, the Denver Broncos have lost in the final five times.
