Sunak's office on whether Britain plans to send troops to Ukraine
Britain has no plans for large-scale troop deployment in Ukraine, according to the spokesperson for the British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak.
"Beyond the small number of personnel we do have in country supporting the armed forces of Ukraine, we haven't got any plans for large-scale deployment," the British administration representative told journalists.
He also reminded that a significant number of Ukrainian servicemen undergo training in the UK, and London has been supporting Kyiv with equipment and materials.
About deployment of Western troops to Ukraine
On February 26, a working meeting of about 20 European leaders took place at the Elysée Palace in Paris. Conference participants discussed ways to counter Russia and possible avenues of assistance to Ukraine in confronting the aggressor amid the escalation on the frontlines in recent weeks. In particular, during the summit, French President Emmanuel Macron did not rule out NATO deploying troops to assist Ukraine. The main issue, according to him, is the lack of consensus on this matter.
Currently, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has opposed the deployment of NATO or EU troops to Ukraine. Czechia and Poland also do not consider such an option. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg was categorical, stating that "there are no plans for NATO combat troops on the ground in Ukraine," despite comprehensive assistance to Kyiv.
