Strikes on Russia and additional air defense: Zelenskyy holds talks with Pentagon chief
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held talks with US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin. One of the topics of discussion was the authorization to strike Russia with American weapons, according to the press service of the Office of the President of Ukraine.
The President expressed gratitude to the US for its clear stance on continuing to provide Ukraine with all necessary military support and for its leadership in the Ramstein format.
Zelenskyy also thanked President Joe Biden for the announced $250 million military aid package for Ukraine. The two sides discussed the details of the package.
"The President also emphasized that Ukraine needs permission to use Western long-range weapons against military targets on Russian territory," the press service says.
The President noted that due to the increased Russian missile terror against Ukrainians and critical infrastructure, Ukraine needs additional air defense systems.
Zelenskyy and Austin also discussed ways to accelerate the delivery of promised military aid and to expand training for Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighters.
