Officials from the Ministry of Development and the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration discussed the situation in communities around the Pechenihy dam, which was under attack by Russian forces. For now, evacuation is not necessary, according to the press service of the Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine.
"During the meeting, the situation in the Kharkiv communities near the Pechenihy reservoir was discussed. As of today, the situation is stable, and there are no grounds for any population evacuation measures," the ministry said.
The meeting also addressed the possibility of establishing additional transit centers in Poltava, Kyiv, and Zhytomyr regions to temporarily accommodate people if needed. The issue of increasing the number of Ukrzaliznytsia train services was also raised.
"Relevant services continue to monitor the water level in the Pechenihy reservoir regularly. As of today, the situation remains stable," emphasized Oleksii Riabykin, Deputy Minister for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine.
Attacks on the Pechenihy dam
Russian forces are systematically attacking the Pechenihy dam in the Kharkiv region using Shahed drones, various missiles, KAB bombs, as well as strike and FPV drones.
In recent days, several attack attempts have been recorded, and one missile destroyed more than ten houses in a nearby cottage settlement.
Ukrainian forces have prepared in advance for the potential critical damage to the dam: alternative transportation routes have been developed, necessary material and technical reserves have been formed, ensuring full logistics support even if the crossing is temporarily lost. Engineering units are ready to quickly restore access if needed.
The Pechenihy dam is a key water supply and safety facility for dozens of settlements in the region. The Defense Forces emphasize that attempts to destroy it have no military justification.
