Storm washes sea mine ashore on Odesa coast - Ukrainian Navy releases video of disposal

Recently, during a storm on the coast of the Odesa region, waves washed a naval mine ashore, and the Ukrainian Navy conducted a controlled detonation, the Telegram channel of Ukrainian military reports.
"A dangerous object was washed ashore by the waves on the coast of Odesa. After it was discovered by the servicemen of the Ukrainian Navy, measures were taken to deactivate it, transport it to a safe location, and destroy it by controlled detonation," the Ukrainian Navy press service stated.
What to do if you find naval mines
The Ukrainian Navy gave advice in case of finding naval mines:
- Do not approach suspicious objects, especially those resembling mines or other explosives;
- Immediately report the finding to representatives of the Armed Forces, the State Emergency Service, or the police;
- Avoid visiting unchecked coastal areas, especially after storms;
- Do not try to move or deactivate suspicious items yourself.
Mine clearance in Black Sea
Since the start of the full-scale invasion, Ukraine and Russia have actively used naval mines to protect their coastlines from ships and amphibious landings.
For example, last week, near the shore in Koblevo, Mykolaiv region, a naval mine detonated. One person was reported injured in the explosion.
Furthermore, earlier in the Odesa region, the Ukrainian military destroyed a naval mine that had washed up on one of the beaches. This time, the anti-ship mine was found in coastal waters just a few meters from the shore.
To combat naval mines, Romania, Bulgaria, and Türkiye have created a joint task force to eliminate mines in the Black Sea. This became necessary after dangerous objects began appearing on the sea surface of the sea due to hostilities in the region, threatening shipping in the area.
