Jens Stoltenberg announces when he depart from NATO
The extension of NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg's term for one more year in July was the final one, announces the Secretary-General of the North Atlantic Alliance, Jens Stoltenberg during his interview with CNN.
This concerns the decision made on July 4 by NATO members in Vilnius to extend his mandate as Secretary-General for an additional year, until October 1, 2024.
As Stoltenberg himself now confirms, his tenure as NATO Secretary-General will not be extended beyond October 2024.
"Yes, this is my final extension of tenure," he emphasized.
Stoltenberg's tenure as NATO Secretary-General
Jens Stoltenberg has been at the helm of NATO since 2014. His tenure was originally set to conclude on September 30, 2022. However, in March 2022, due to Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, his term was extended for another year.
In February, Stoltenberg had stated that he would not seek an extension of his contract. Nevertheless, NATO members requested him to reconsider after failing to reach a consensus on his successor.
It is expected that following his tenure as NATO Secretary-General, Stoltenberg will assume the leadership of the Central Bank of Norway.
Furthermore, discussions about Stoltenberg's successor intensified amidst NATO's trials involving Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, internal discord, and the rise of China.
