Special operations forces rescue 16 Ukrainian soldiers encircled in Kursk region
Operators from the 73rd Naval Center rescued 16 soldiers from three different units of Ukraine's Defense Forces during a special operation in the Kursk region, according to the Telegram channel of the Special Operations Forces.
The operators received a combat task at 2:00 a.m. to extract a group of soldiers from friendly units surrounded by enemy forces.
Within two hours, the operators planned the mission and set off in two armored Humvees to rescue their comrades.
"We flew in on Humvees, loaded the personnel of the friendly forces, and headed back," said Bruce, an operator from the 73rd Special Operations Center.
The evacuation team broke through under fire from an enemy tank, heavy machine gun fire, and an FPV drone.
In the released video, the rescued soldiers from Ukraine's Defense Forces thank the operators of the Special Operations Forces.
Fighting in the Kursk region
In August, the Ukrainian Armed Forces launched an operation in the Kursk region, capturing over a hundred settlements (more than 1,000 square kilometers). Battles continue there, and the Russian forces attempt to regain their territory.
As Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, stated, the current objective for Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region is to eliminate the enemy on its own land.
He noted that during nearly three months of fighting in the Kursk region, Russia has lost more than 20,000 soldiers, and 1,101 units of Russian military equipment and weapons were destroyed.
