Slovakia suspends military aid to Ukraine after elections: Country's government states
The temporary government of Slovakia has announced the suspension of military assistance to Ukraine. This decision follows the victory of the anti-Ukrainian party Smer in the elections, according to Politico.
"The outgoing bureaucratic government in Slovakia will not send any more military material to Ukraine," a government spokesperson stated.
However, the Ministry of Defense of Slovakia is considering the possibility of sending a new package of aid.
On October 2nd, the President of Slovakia, Zuzana Čaputová, asked former Prime Minister Robert Fico, who won the elections, to attempt to form a coalition government. He has until October 16th to do so.
Elections in Slovakia
On September 30th, local elections were held in Slovakia. The anti-Ukrainian party Smer-SD, led by former Prime Minister Robert Fico, received the most votes.
However, one of Slovakia's prominent leaders, former Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini, had a change of heart regarding military assistance to Ukraine after the elections. He stated that Slovakia had "nothing more to send" to Ukraine.
