Significance of holding Avdiivka explained by Tavria operational-strategic group
Ukrainian military continue to defend Avdiivka to prevent Russian terror and artillery from reaching the western Donetsk region, according to the spokesperson of the Tavria operational-strategic group, Dmytro Lykhovii, in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
According to him, the Russians are deploying huge resources to the Avdiivka direction. As of February 14, there are ongoing combat operations involving military units and formations, including the 1st Army Corps, the 2nd, 8th, and 41st Army Corps of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
Lykhovii mentions that the occupiers in the Avdiivka area employ various tactics. Mostly, they conduct assault actions with small infantry groups, sometimes accompanied by armored vehicles.
"However, there is a specificity in urban combat. Recently, significant losses in armored vehicles force the occupiers to switch to infantry assaults. They throw forward convicts, former criminals, and those who are least valuable. This can be seen from who falls into captivity," the spokesperson clarifies.
He adds that if Ukrainians do not replenish the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and donate, many settlements west of Avdiivka could become the second Mariupol, the second Bakhmut, and the second Bucha.
"The defense of Avdiivka is important to prevent Russian artillery and terror from advancing further into the western Donetsk region. To grind down Russian resources and reserves, to exhaust their army," Lykhovii emphasizes.
At the same time, he stresses that the main priority is the lives of the soldiers.
