US President Donald Trump's strong appeal to Russian leader Vladimir Putin to stop the war against Ukraine is not a warning. It is a signal from a strong man, Zelenskyy said in an interview with Il Foglio.

"I think it is important that there is a signal of a strong man. It's like a shot. No shot in the air warns of something. He does not warn, he speaks directly. He says he really wants to end the war. So far, we don't know how it will be, we don't know the details," the president commented on Trump's statement.

According to him, the American president himself does not yet know how Russia's war against Ukraine will end, in particular, because Putin does not want peace at the moment.

"Trump understands all these challenges and simply says that we have to end it or it will get worse. And he speaks with a message to Russia. It seems to me that this is a tactic. I am impressed by it today," Zelenskyy added.

Recently, US President Trump strongly urged Putin to stop the war and sit down at the negotiating table with Ukraine. Otherwise, according to Trump, the United States will be forced to take serious measures against Russia. In addition, Trump has set a deadline of 100 days for his representative on Ukraine and Russia to find a solution to end the war.

However, in response to Trump's statement, Putin said that he was ready for talks, but Ukraine allegedly did not want this, as it had passed a "decree" banning dialogue with Russia. Read how Ukraine's president reacted to Putin's statement here.
