Should you see an esthetician if nothing is wrong with your skin? Doctor answers

Regular visits to a cosmetologist do not necessarily have to be part of everyone's beauty routine. If your skin is not causing any problems, you do not have a dermatological condition or a specific cosmetic concern, there is no need to undergo professional treatments on a regular basis.
Do you need to see a cosmetologist regularly?
Ukrainian dermatologist and cosmetic physician, Yuliia Yarmoliuk, said that not having regular cosmetic treatments does not mean that a person is not taking proper care of their skin. Not everyone needs professional facials, resurfacing treatments, injectable procedures, or other cosmetic interventions.
"As a cosmetic physician, I believe that no — regular treatments are not necessary simply because 'that's what you're supposed to do,'" Yarmoliuk said.
At the same time, even if you have no specific complaints, a consultation with a specialist can be useful. First and foremost, it can help determine your skin type and its current needs, as well as choose an appropriate at-home skincare routine.
The doctor considers a daily skincare routine an important part of maintaining healthy skin. According to her, the right at-home skincare regimen can play a significant role in the condition of your skin.

When should you see a dermatologist?
Yarmoliuk also advises people not to overlook preventive skin checks. This includes examining moles, pigmented spots, and other skin growths.
People who have a lot of moles or develop new ones should be especially attentive. It is important to monitor existing moles and other growths for changes and see a doctor if they change in appearance or become concerning.
For a healthy person with a small number of typical moles, the doctor recommends a preventive dermatology checkup approximately once a year.
In other words, being consistent with your skincare does not necessarily mean undergoing regular cosmetic procedures. Basic at-home skincare, paying attention to changes in your skin, and seeing a doctor when needed remain much more important.
