'She was my mom': Macaulay Culkin honours Catherine O’Hara at 2026 Emmys

The 2026 Emmy Awards ceremony ended with a touching moment honoring actors and industry figures who died over the past year. Macaulay Culkin paid an emotional tribute to his on-screen mother, Catherine O’Hara, according to the Television Academy’s YouTube channel.

The actor took the stage alongside Annie Murphy and Dan Levy, who also played the star’s on-screen children in Schitt’s Creek.
“She may have forgotten me twice, but we will always remember her,” Culkin said.
He described O’Hara as a warm, funny, and caring person, and noted that the first word that comes to mind when he thinks of his colleague is mom.
“She was my mom. She was our mama, and by extension, she’s all of our mama,” the actor said.

Culkin also addressed the audience, urging them to call their mothers.
“By the way, call your mom tonight, really,” he said.
O’Hara was a special person to Culkin. Many years after they finished working on “Home Alone,” she was still there for him.
“Like a good mom, she always came when I asked her to, because that’s who Catherine was. That’s what she did — she showed up. And that’s the best thing we can do for her tonight,” he said.
