Journalists have gained access to "hundreds" of documents related to the death of Russian opposition figure Alexei Navalny. Among them was information indicating a possible poisoning of the opposition leader, reports The Insider.

According to the publication, among the documents were two versions of a decision to refuse the initiation of a criminal case. Notably, references to Navalny experiencing abdominal pain, vomiting, and seizures before his death were removed from the second and final version.

This information is also found in another document — a description of "seized items" that included "samples of vomit."

Based on the document's text, the samples were sent for analysis, although no prior mention was made of either the examination or the fact that Navalny had vomited.

Dr. Oleksandr Polupan, an intensive care specialist who treated Navalny after his poisoning with Novichok in August 2020 in Omsk, commented on the documents. He stated that the symptoms suggest poisoning by an organophosphorus compound (such as Novichok).

It should be noted that, according to the journalists, these documents confirm the statement made by Yulia Navalnaya, who previously claimed that in his final moments, Navalny had complained of severe abdominal pain.

Death of Alexei Navalny

As a reminder, Russian opposition figure Alexei Navalny was in prison since 2021, after returning to Russia following his recovery from poisoning — a poisoning he attributed to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.

Navalny died on February 16, 2024, in the Arctic penal colony Polar Wolf, where he was serving a three-year prison sentence. His death shocked the world, and Putin was immediately blamed.

The official cause of Navalny's death has not been announced. Russian media speculated that he died from a blood clot.
