Fishermen discovered an unidentified sea drone off the coast of Türkiye. Local authorities believe it may be linked to Russia's war against Ukraine, said the governor of Artvin Province, Turan Ergün, Yeni Şafak reports.

"We suspect it could be an unmanned sea vehicle connected to the Russia-Ukraine war," Ergün said.

He added that the coast guard had taken all necessary security measures.

"A SAS commando team under the navy's command has arrived from Istanbul to Trabzon. They will come here, inspect the device, and destroy it," the official added.

He noted that explosives might be inside the drone, so it will be destroyed on site.

The governor also said security in the area had been tightened: the coast guard cordoned off the site, entry and exit within a 3.5-mile (about 6 km) radius are prohibited, and fishermen are not allowed to approach.

Second incident in a week

Last week, on September 30, another naval drone was found off the coast of Türkiye near Trabzon.

Earlier, on June 13, Turkish media reported that a drone, allegedly belonging to Ukraine, had washed up on a Turkish beach.

It was identified as a kamikaze drone and was handed over to the Turkish Navy’s bomb disposal unit.
