Scholz and Trump discuss restoring peace in Europe
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz had a phone conversation with newly elected US President Donald Trump. Both parties agreed to work together towards restoring peace in Europe, states the Federal Government Spokesperson, Steffen Hebestreit.
Hebestreit clarified that the conversation took place on the evening of Sunday, November 10. According to him, during the phone call, Scholz personally congratulated Trump once again on his election victory. The two leaders also discussed German-American relations and current geopolitical challenges, including peace in Europe.
"The chancellor underlined the government’s willingness to continue the decades-long successful cooperation between the governments of both countries. They also agreed to work together toward a return to peace in Europe," the representative added.
On Sunday evening, it became known that on Thursday, November 7, Donald Trump had a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
During the conversation, the newly elected US president advised Putin not to escalate the war in Ukraine and reminded him of Washington's significant presence in Europe.
According to The Washington Post, both heads of state discussed the goal of peace on the European continent. Trump expressed interest in further discussions to find a swift resolution to the war in Ukraine.
