Employees of Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) have exposed an agent within the State Special Transport Service of the Ministry of Defense who was working for Russian military intelligence, better known as the GRU, the press service of the SBU reports.

Case details

According to the SBU, the arrest took place while the individual was still undergoing general military training at a military range.

The investigation found that the soldier was recruited by the enemy immediately after being mobilized into the unit. He came to the attention of Russia's GRU because of his pro-Russian comments on social media.

"The main task of the agent was to adjust Russian airstrikes against Ukraine's Defense Forces in the Dnipropetrovsk region," the statement says.

The traitor had transmitted the coordinates of the military unit where he was training via messenger, and later began gathering intelligence on other formations of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. He sent the data to his handler as Google Maps pins with detailed descriptions of targets.

As part of a special operation, the SBU detained the agent, seized his phone containing evidence of espionage, and took measures to protect Ukrainian Armed Forces positions within the zone of Russian intelligence activity.

What traitor faces

The man has been officially charged under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - high treason under martial law.

He is currently in custody without the possibility of bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

Spy in Armed Forces of Ukraine

Ukrainian law enforcement recently exposed a Russian agent within the National Guard who was leaking information about a strategically important plant to Russia.

In addition, the Security Service of Ukraine reported that it uncovered a serviceman who was directing air bombs and artillery fire onto his own unit's positions. The handler of this serviceman turned out to be a Sevastopol native and FSB officer, Oleksiy Suprunenko.

Earlier, SBU operatives also exposed a traitor in one of the brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who was working for Russian military intelligence.
