As a result of the oil tanker accident near Crimea, beaches in Russia were heavily contaminated. Satellite images have appeared online, reports Radio Svoboda.

The publication showed satellite images of beaches in Anapa and Vityazevo. For comparison, images taken in January 2024 and December 20, 2024, were also displayed.

The photos clearly show oil stains and bags used to collect the remnants of the oil waste. According to the publication, the oil seeps through the plastic bags back into the sand because the bags are not being removed in time.

It was previously reported that the area contaminated by fuel oil in Kuban, following the accident of two tankers in the Kerch Strait, had increased to 54 kilometers.

Tanker accident near Crimea

On December 15, two Russian tankers, Volgoneft-212 and Volgoneft-239, were involved in an accident in the Kerch Strait due to a strong storm. It was reported that one of them was almost split in half by the waves.

As explained by the spokesperson for the Ukrainian Navy, the tankers sank because they went to sea without following maritime regulations.

By December 17, it was reported that another tanker had crashed near the Kavkaz port in the Black Sea. A fuel oil spill was reported, and information about contamination of the coastline in the Krasnodar region surfaced online.
