Today, the enemy attempted to advance. Several mechanized columns with armored vehicles pushed forward. Around one and a half dozen of them. However, they lost almost 80% of their vehicles, our guys destroyed them," Stupun reported.
According to him, the remnants of these columns retreated, and heavy fighting is ongoing in that area of the front.
"The aggressors don't cease their attempts to encircle Avdiivka. Unsuccessfully, they stormed areas east of Novobakhmutivka, in the regions of Avdiivka, Severne, and Pervomaiske. Thirteen attacks were repelled in the past day," the spokesperson added.
The situation in the Avdiivka region
It's worth noting that at the beginning of October, the occupiers intensified their offensive in the Avdiivka region. It became the most extensive since 2014. It's known that Russian aggressors have had some success. Their main goal is to encircle and then capture the gate to Donetsk.
According to the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, during the month when the occupiers intensified near Avdiivka, Russia lost about 10,000 soldiers on this front.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy refers to Russia's losses in the Avdiivka area as more significant than those near Bahmut.
As military expert Oleksandr Kovalenko noted, Russian occupiers near Avdiivka might be focusing on a new tactic due to the huge losses the enemy suffered in this direction.
