In the war against Ukraine, Russian troops have begun using a new kamikaze drone, the Scalpel, according to ТАSS.
The drone was designed by Vostok Design Bureau.
"We have started low-volume production of the Scalpel platform and are currently producing 20 products per month. If necessary, production can be increased significantly. At the moment, a batch of 15 scalpels has been delivered to the Russian troops," the source said.
Scalpel drone features
A Russian single-launch unmanned aerial vehicle designed to engage ground targets.
The drone is suitable for most ammunition used by Russian troops, with a payload weight of 5 kg.
The drone has a take-off weight of up to 10.5 kg, a cruising speed of up to 120 km/h, and a range of up to 40 km. The device can fly for two hours and is launched from a catapult.
Russia's war in Ukraine and the use of drones
Russian troops actively use drones. They use mostly Iranian Shaheds, as well as indigenous developments.
Russia uses its kamikaze drone, the Geranium-2. A detailed comparison of this drone with the Iranian Shahed can be found in the article.
