Vuhledar in the Donetsk region, which had previously been convenient for defense thanks to its elevated location, suffered significant damage after Russian active attacks with guided aerial bombs. As a result, the Russian army managed to advance to the flanks of the Ukrainian defense, according to the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, Andriy Kovalenko.

“Vuhledar. It used to be easy to defend this city, it was on top. But with the active use of GABs at the front, the enemy managed to destroy it and move to the flank,” he said.

GABs and aviation are the only factors that allow the enemy infantry to move forward, he adds.

Situation in Vuhledar

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on Sept 24 that Russian troops made eight attempts to seize Ukrainian positions in the Vremivka sector, near Pavlivka and Vuhledar in the Donetsk region. All attacks were successfully repelled by Ukrainian defenders.

Earlier, Deep State analysts said that the Russian army was trying to surround Vuhledar. The situation around the city deteriorated, as due to the lack of rotation of the 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade, the command was forced to bring in reserves from the Territorial Defense Forces, which were unable to withstand the Russian onslaught. This forced the assault battalion to expand the defense line in the battle area.
