The British Council office was damaged as a result of Russia's night attack on Kyiv. French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer have already made statements.

On the night of August 28, Russia launched a massive drone and missile strike on Kyiv. As a result of the Russian attack, the British Council office in Ukraine suffered significant damage.

The organization said the building would remain closed to visitors until further notice. At the same time, work with Ukrainian partners in the field of education and culture will continue, despite possible delays in responses.

UK reaction

Commenting on the night attack, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer recalled that among the victims of the Russian strikes were civilians, including children. He expressed his support for the victims of the Russian strikes on Kyiv and condemned Russia's actions.

"My thoughts are with all those affected by the senseless Russian strikes on Kyiv which have damaged the British Council building. Putin is killing children and civilians, and sabotaging hopes of peace. This bloodshed must end," Keir Starmer emphasizes.

France condemnation

Emmanuel Macron also reacted strongly to the latest attack. He called the nighttime shelling barbaric and terroristic.

"629 missiles and drones in a single night over Ukraine: this is Russia’s idea of peace. Terror and barbarism. More than a dozen dead, including children. Residential areas and civilian infrastructures deliberately targeted. The offices of the European Union Delegation and the British Council damaged. France condemns these senseless and cruel attacks in the strongest possible terms. Full support to the Ukrainian people, and deepest compassion for all the grieving families," the French President said.

Consequences of Russian strike on Kyiv

As a result of Russia's massive attack on Kyiv, 15 people were killed, including four children. Another 10 children were injured.

During the Russian attack, two cruise missiles hit a residential building directly, causing significant damage. It is known that search and rescue operations are currently ongoing.

Also today, the Russians hit a shopping center and launched a targeted strike on an Intercity train.

Russian strike damaged not only civilian facilities but also diplomatic missions. In particular, the shock wave seriously damaged the building of the EU Delegation to Ukraine.

The Kremlin traditionally commented cynically on the attack on Ukraine, stating that the strikes targeted exclusively military facilities.
