One of Russia's largest oil hubs, Samara, is burning again in the Samara region. This Linear Production and Dispatching Station was previously attacked on October 2, according to OSINT analysts from the Telegram channel ASTRA.

Samara oil hub continues to burn

The LPDS Samara is on fire in the settlement of Rassvet, Volzhsky District, Samara region. This was established by an ASTRA OSINT analyst based on footage from eyewitnesses.

The Governor of the Samara region, Vyacheslav Fedorishchev, reported a drone threat in the region today. It lasted for more than seven hours, and he announced its cancellation around 9:00 a.m. Moscow time.

Local chats reported a fire at the LPDS. However, there was no official information about the consequences of the attack.

Nevertheless, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported on the morning of October 7 about allegedly shot-down UAVs, including over the Samara region.

The NASA FIRMS thermal anomaly tracking service records a large fire at the LPDS Samara.

What is known about the LPDS Samara

The LPDS Samara is the largest oil transportation and distribution hub of JSC Transneft-Privolga, a subsidiary of PJSC Transneft.

The facility covers an area of over 216 hectares.

It houses:

  • 71 storage tanks with a total capacity of over 1.6 million cubic meters of oil;
  • Two oil pumping stations (OPS): Samara-1 and Samara-2;
  • A separate oil blending station.

Four main oil pipelines converge at this LPDS:

  • Almetyevsk–Kuybyshev;
  • Kaltasy–Kuybyshev;
  • Nizhnevartovsk–Kurgan–Kuybyshev;
  • Guryev–Kuybyshev.

Thus, oil arrives here from Western Siberia, Tatarstan, Orenburg, and Kazakhstan, writes ASTRA.

Another attack

On October 2, ASTRA established that the eponymous LPDS near Samara had been attacked and was on fire. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the attack.

On October 7, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine clarified the consequences of the October 2 strike on the LPDS Samara:

The statement reads that damage to eleven RVS-20000 storage tanks, three RVSPK-50000 tanks, a section of pipelines, and an automated oil product loading station had been confirmed.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine struck oil and gas facilities in the Samara and Astrakhan regions of Russia, damaging tanks, pipelines, and processing units.

Furthermore, the Samara hub - the largest oil storage facility in Europe - was hit by Ukrainian drones on the night of October 2.
