Russian repair base in occupied Berdyansk, Zaporizhzhia region, left without power - Sources

An explosion occurred at an electrical substation in temporarily occupied Berdyansk on the evening of August 3. The substation supplies power to a repair facility and a warehouse used by Russian forces, according to intelligence sources.
According to sources, a late-night explosion occurred in Berdyansk at a power substation that supplies electricity to the industrial facilities of the former Berdyanski Zhnyvarky plant.
Following the occupation of the city, Russian forces converted the plant’s workshops into a large repair base and a storage facility for Russian army personnel, equipment, and weapons.
Local residents were the first to report the powerful explosion on social media. Later, eyewitnesses shared videos and information in public channels, stating that one of the city’s substations caught fire for unknown reasons, leading to power outages on several nearby streets.
As a result of the explosion and the subsequent fire on the transformers, the substation that supplied electricity to the facility repairing Russian military equipment was knocked out. The full extent of the damage and consequences is still being assessed.

Situation in Berdyansk
Russian forces captured Berdyansk in the Zaporizhzhia region in February 2022. Since then, they have used the city to concentrate manpower and equipment to support the Russian military grouping fighting in Ukraine.
Explosions frequently occur in the city. Ukraine’s Defense Forces have repeatedly targeted Russian facilities in Berdyansk, including the port.
In June, a collaborator and war criminal, Mykhailo Hrytsai, was eliminated in temporarily occupied Berdyansk.
Earlier this year, a car was blown up in Berdyansk. It was later revealed that the vehicle was carrying the "deputy head" of the city's occupation administration.
