Russian forces late on January 17 carried out an attack on the Zaporizhzhia district. The strike sparked a fire, and the city of Vilniansk was plunged into a blackout, according to Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration.

"In the Zaporizhzhia district, a Russian strike caused a fire. Vilniansk has been left without power," the statement said.

Fedorov added that:

  • boiler houses are operating on generators;

  • centralized water supply is also being maintained via backup power.

According to him, all emergency and utility services are working to restore supplies.

"Critical infrastructure in Vilniansk has been switched to backup power," the head of the Regional Military Administration said in a separate post.

At 00:08 AM Ivan Fedorov reported that as a result of the Russian strike, more than 15,000 customers in the Vilniansk community were left without electricity. He stressed that specialists are doing everything possible to restore power as quickly as possible.

Zaporizhzhia region strike

Earlier, on the night of January 17, Russian forces attacked Zaporizhzhia with drones, striking an infrastructure facility and causing a fire. Previously, on January 13, Russian forces also targeted energy facilities in Zaporizhzhia, leaving a large number of consumers without power.
