Russia launched more than 50 Shahed and decoy drones at Ukraine. Most were shot down by air defenses, but nine drones struck targets in four regions, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.
On the night of August 22, Russian forces carried out a massive drone strike on Ukraine. From 10:30 p.m. on August 21, the enemy launched 55 strike UAVs, including Shaheds and various drone decoys.
Ukrainian defenders shot down or jammed 46 enemy drones, with the highest number destroyed in the north and east of the country.
Meanwhile, nine drones hit targets in four regions. Details on casualties and damage are still being verified.
The drones were launched from several directions:
-
Shatalovo
-
Kursk
-
Millerovo
-
Primorsko-Akhtarsk
-
Hvardiiske (in temporarily occupied Crimea)
The attack was countered by Ukraine’s air defense forces, including surface-to-air missile troops, electronic warfare units, mobile fire groups, and defense UAV systems.
On the same night, the enemy again targeted the Chuhuiv community in the Kharkiv region with drones. The strike hit an inactive industrial facility, damaging empty warehouse buildings. No casualties were reported.
South Africa is investigating the recruitment of women for Shahed drone production in Russia. Activity was recorded in South Africa, a BRICS member. One of the main recruiters is the special economic zone of Alabuga in Tatarstan, where military drones are manufactured.
According to research organizations, including the Institute for Science and International Security (ISIS), women are deceived into working on assembling Shahed kamikaze drones. Women are considered more reliable for this type of labor.
