Russian forces alter tactics along Sumy border, National Guard says

Ukrainian forces have recorded reduced activity by Russian reconnaissance and sabotage groups in the Sumy direction. At the same time, the intensity of Russian attacks has not decreased, according to Ruslan Muzychuk, spokesperson for the National Guard of Ukraine, during a national telethon broadcast.
According to Muzychuk, Ukrainian forces are continuously monitoring the situation along the northern border and in the Northern-Slobozhanskyi direction. Russian troops periodically carry out demonstration maneuvers there, including in the Sumy region.
"The Defense Forces are monitoring the situation along the northern border and in the Northern-Slobozhanskyi direction in particular. We see that the enemy periodically conducts demonstration actions here, including in the Sumy region," Muzychuk said.
At the same time, he noted that Russian forces continue trying to send reconnaissance and sabotage groups into Ukrainian territory.
"Recently, National Guard units operating in these areas in coordination with other components of the Defense Forces, including border guards, have recorded somewhat lower activity by reconnaissance and sabotage groups. However, there is still a high level of attacks here, including artillery and air strikes. The Yunakivka community and the Shostka direction are suffering particularly heavily," he added.
Russian forces continue efforts to increase pressure on the Sumy region.
According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Russian troops conducted limited offensive operations in the northern Sumy region on July 19 and 20 but failed to make any advances.
ISW analysts also noted that Russia continues trying to establish a so-called buffer zone along the Ukraine-Russia border.
