As of the evening of August 23, Russian invaders have attacked Ukrainian positions 79 times. The enemy is most active in the Pokrovsk and Kurakhove directions, where they have conducted more than a third of all attacks, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Enemy shelling

According to the General Staff, border areas in the Sumy and Chernihiv regions continue to suffer from Russian artillery shelling.

It is also reported that today, enemy aviation carried out 14 strikes using 20 KABs (guided aerial bombs) on the territory of the Kursk region in Russia.

Situation in the directions

Today, in the Kharkiv direction, Russian troops have attempted to storm Ukrainian positions four times in the areas of Hlyboke, Starytsia, and Vovchansk. Three combat engagements are ongoing.

In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy attacked nine times. Ukrainian defenders are repelling enemy assaults near Petropavlivka, Kurylivka, Synkivka, and Stelmakhivka. Two engagements are still ongoing. The enemy is actively using aviation, dropping ten KABs on the areas around Novoosynove, Bohuslavka, and Kruhliakivka.

In the Lyman direction, enemy units continue to attack the areas of Druzheliubivka, Novosadove, Nevske, Torske, and Terny. Since the start of the day, Ukrainian forces have repelled eight enemy attacks in this direction. Fighting continues near Terny.

Battles continue in the Siversk direction, with the enemy attacking near Verkhniokamianske, Vyimka, Bilohorivka, and Spirne seven times, attempting to capture Ukrainian positions. Our defenders repelled all attacks.

In the Kramatorsk direction, Russia carried out four assaults near Ivanivske and Kalynivka. Two engagements are ongoing near Kalynivka.

In the Toretsk direction, the number of enemy attacks currently stands at five. The enemy is attacking near the settlements of Nelipivka and Toretsk. Our defenders are providing a strong resistance, having repelled three attacks, with two ongoing. Aggressor aviation has struck the settlement of Druzhba with unguided air missiles.

The hottest front line is the Pokrovsk direction. Since the start of the day, the occupiers have made 20 attempts to attack our defenders in the areas of Vozdvyzhivka, Kalynove, Novohrodivka, Hrodivka, Ptyche and Zelenopillia. The defense forces have already repelled 11 enemy attacks, with nine engagements still ongoing.

The situation is also challenging in the Kurakhove direction, where invaders have attacked our units 15 times, attempting to advance near Kostiantynivka, Heorhiivka, Krasnohorivka, and Karlivka. Fighting continues in five locations.

In the Vremivka direction, Russian forces have launched seven attacks on Ukrainian positions. Near Vuhledar, Vodiane, and Kostiantynivka, three enemy attacks have been repelled, with fighting ongoing near Vodiane.

In other directions, the enemy is not currently engaging in active operations but is using bomber and assault aviation, shelling Ukrainian positions and settlements with artillery and multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS).

Situation on the frontlines and Russian losses

According to the General Staff, on August 22, there were 144 combat engagements reported across various directions.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia has lost over 605,000 soldiers in the war against Ukraine. In the past 24 hours alone, the Defense Forces have eliminated 1,190 Russian troops.

Additionally, the Ukrainian Armed Forces destroyed 4 tanks, 32 armored vehicles, 45 artillery systems, and other enemy equipment yesterday.
