Russian fiber-optic drone strikes Ukraine's Kramatorsk for the first time

The city of Kramatorsk in the Donetsk region came under attack on Sunday evening, October 5. It was the first time a Russian drone using a fiber-optic link struck the area, according to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and the Kramatorsk City Council.
Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty cited Donbas.Realii correspondent, saying a car was hit near a multi-story residential building.
Until now, there had been no recorded cases of Russian drones using fiber optics to strike Kramatorsk.
The Kramatorsk City Council confirmed that an FPV drone with a warhead was used in the attack.
No casualties have been reported so far, and local authorities are assessing the damage.
Fiber-optic drones
Russia is increasingly deploying drones equipped with fiber-optic communication in the war, particularly as electronic warfare systems are widely used.
These drones receive commands and transmit images through an ultra-thin fiber-optic cable that unspools during flight, unlike conventional drones that rely on radio channels.
Russian attack on Kramatorsk
On Saturday afternoon, October 4, Russian forces again attacked Kramatorsk, hitting a hospital complex. The previous evening, some parts of the city lost power after another attack.
Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that overnight on September 23, Russian forces carried out a double strike on the city, damaging several residential buildings.
